Mud, the mortar and foundation of Santa Fe and the material that inspires children to play, will flow in all its fort-making, mud-pie making glory at the Railyard Park’s second annual celebration of International Mud Day this summer. Children and families are invited to play in a special man-made mud pit as playground water makes its way to a grove of small cottonwood trees.
Mud Day is a international, nature-based play holiday that celebrates the connection with play and earth without fancy plastic stuff or WiFi, and provides an opportunity for children and their families to experience nature-based play in a natural setting. Perhaps the most elemental material in the world can rival electronics and amusement parks when it comes to making fun times. And we sure have a lot of it in Santa Fe, a city of mud huts.
