AMANDA LECHNER” “FUTURE PERFECT TENSE” (Axle Contemporary)
Amanda Lechner is converting the interior of Axle Contemporary into an abstracted cyclorama. Using texture, mark and imagery, Amanda’s themes relate to climate news, science, political threat, philosophy, land, planetary research, observed landscape, and her internal space.
Her project is about curiosity; The profoundly strange and wonderful ideas offered by quantum physics, alchemy and science-fiction find a visual adaptation in her work. Story-telling, pseudo-sciences and super-natural investigations are also seen as wellsprings for narrative potential. The depictions in her art mix the factual and observed with the invented and personal.
We don’t always know what events in our lives or in the culture will be of importance in the future. The installation speaks to that moment of reflection when we realize a particular action, event or thought was an indicator, bellwether, or omen.
Imagery explored: moths, windows, stars, lunar eclipse, microscopic stuff, magnetism, shapes, animal skulls, hands, Manta Ray, shadows, rocks, living fossils, vortex, shadowy mysterious figures, hagfish, infrasound.
